Open Letter to President-Elect Obama: Hold Bush Administration accountable

Dear President-Elect Obama:

You are under tremendous pressure to walk a very fine line between looking backwards or moving forward. I urge you to consider that the most important message you can send to America and to the rest of the world is that under your administration, the United States will uphold its Constitution under ALL circumstances, not only those that are convenient.

This means that you solemnly swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America, no matter what.

I urge you to explore criminal conduct engaged in by the Bush Administration, and not allow those in that administration to pursue a Nuremburg defense. This is the only way to demonstrate to the world that you are absolutely committed to making the US once again be the moral standard bearer for humanity.

It may cost you some points here in the US, but I am convinced that the majority of Americans will be absolutely supportive of your attempts to clean up the moral and constitutional mess that the Bush Adminsitration has left us in.

An Open Letter on Hope

I write this letter on this, the 3rd day of November 2008, one day before an election that could quite possibly restore hope to a wounded republic. After having endured two stolen elections, a preemptive war and illegal occupation, Katrina, the housing collapse, and now the worst economic crisis since The Great Depression just to name the most notable crises we've faced, this nation needs healing.

That our prior two elections were stolen is by now a well-known fact and a graphic illustration of the intoxicating nature of power and the lengths some will take to hold onto it. And if the last eight years and this long election season have taught us one thing, it is that there are those who will do or say anything in order to seize and keep it, and there are those who through fear and intimidation, distraction or sheer ignorance, will cower in the face of it. Caught between the two are those who would sacrifice, fight and die in order to see the intended promise of this great nation restored, and the hope of peace, prosperity and freedom for all finally realized. Our government is in disrepair and our election system has been compromised, and before they can be fixed we the people must reevaluate our priorities and decide what is truly most important to us. For too long we have celebrated mediocrity over that which is truly exceptional, and ideology over that which is mutually beneficial. If we are to find our way back, it is time we recognize again that which binds us together lest we be torn apart. It is time we all stand up to the obvious overreaching by those who would divide us and distract us for their own aggrandizement. It is time for change.

So It sit here with nervous anticipation as reports of poll numbers and trends and voting machine irregularities and suppression efforts and Robo calls and misinformation, innuendo and outright lies try to stand in the way of the change we seek. But I still hope. In spite of the disappointment of elections past I still believe. I believe in the hope that he inspires, not the skin he's in. In spite of the fear-mongers I believe in the clarity of his vision not the party he represents. While words are merely words, they are so much more when spoken with the courage of one's convictions. So I believe in hope over fear, in inclusion over division, in change over the status quo. I know it won't be easy, but every journey starts with a first step. There's only one day left before we take that first step, and we'll still have a long journey ahead, but hope can carry you a mighty long way.

So let's all hope.

Open Letter to Barack Obama Regarding the Economic Crisis

Dear Senator Obama,

Please take the next step, and show real leadership, by demanding that Congress immediately begin drafting legislation to address regulating the banking industry, so that the current financial disaster will not happen again, and our country's economy can grow in a ethically and fiscally responsible manner. Even the supporters of the financial industry bailout agree that the current legislation before congress does not address the issue long term. It is incumbent on you as a senator, and presidential candidate to take the lead on this issue, and demand, among other things more transparency regarding financial instruments, and tougher truth-in-lending laws.

I think that more transparency is necessary so that banks can more clearly evaluate a particular instrument, so that the markets can more closely reflect reality.

One truth-in-lending regulation that I would like to see is that lenders be required to present borrowers who are considering adjustable rate loans a chart that shows clearly what their payments will be based on the change in the prime lending rates.

I hope you will take this seriously, and step out in front on this issue.

My letter to Senator Obama

What the hell, Senator Obama? I'm extremely disappointed in your support for the so-called 'compromise' on the FISA bill in H.R. 6304. There are times for compromise, and then there are times to stand firm. I've spent so much time defending you to friends and family, telling them you're the right man for the job, that you're interested in getting our country back on track after 8 years of abuse. And many of them had come around. These were Republicans and Libertarians who were going to vote for a Democrat, something they'd villified for so long, because of your statements on reaffirming our civil liberties.

And then this happens. You've soured untold numbers of people by this craven folding to 'compromise.' This is not a compromise, it's giving criminals immunity from prosecution. I expected better from you. So much for Change we can believe in.

If you want my vote in November, you're going to have to work hard to earn it. Because you've just lost yourself a ton of credit.

I hope you read the blog or have someone who does this for you. Because I'll tell you, I've been watching you for all the years you've been on...sometimes, I wonder why. Mainly, I do kind of like you especially when you let your hair down a bit and show us more who you are as a man. I love that you love your wife and it takes a real man to tell people that, and I like that you love politics, and that you love your country. You seem to be a man of values as well. However, I'd like to take you on with a few things you've said, and the way you act sometimes, and my fellow bloggers may feel compelled to join in...I don't know. At any rate, I hope you understand.

Open Letter to Presidential Candidates (U.S.)

Well, since it is here and easy to step onto, I am pulling out the soapbox this morning. This is an open letter to all the presidential candidates about what I want from my next president. Here it is not in priority order since I don't want to make this too hard:

I want you to begin the withdrawal of troops from Iraq within the first 100 days of office.
I want you to find a way for everyone in this country to have medical care !
I want you to find a way for everyone in this country to have affordable medications.
I want you to find a way for every young person to have access to higher education.
I want you to improve our schools and get our teachers better prepared and better paid.
I want you to find a way to ensure that the people who have entered a tacit agreement to turn over some of their earnings with the understanding that they would have a return as social security annuities will in fact get that return on investment.
I want you to behave as a Global CITIZEN rather than as the AUTOCRATIC PATRIARCH telling your global brothers and sisters how to run their countries.
I want you to use more diplomacy in dealing with world issues and NOT rush to invade , conquer and quash.
I want you to be as concerned about what is happening in Burma and Darfur as Iraq.
I want you to refuse to build a WALL across our border and to develop a considered approach to immigration.
I want you to ensure that religious thought does not dictate decisions such as who may or may not enter into the contract of marriage. Such issues are for (of-age) individuals to decide not government.
I want you to reduce the availability of automatic weapons.
I want you to ensure our environment is protected.
I want you to sign the Kyoto agreement and to work diligently to reduce global warming.
I want you to immediately take appropriate action to improve our economy.
I want you to be a person of integrity and intelligence

AND

I want you to protect the constitution and not erode the rights protected by the constitution!

Open Letter To Sen. Barack Obama

Senator Obama,

Assuming that you are elected President of the United States it is possible that you will have within your power the collective minds of the greatest scientist on the face of the planet. As a country we can look not to far back to the time when the technological accomplishments of the United States united the world in hope for a better tomorrow and we can do that again. We are the country that in the middle of a depression built one of the greatest networks of hydro-electric dams in the world. That network serves us to this day and provides millions of Americans with drinking water and clean power while faced with one of the worst droughts in a 100 years. We are the country that allowed my grandfather to help build a bridge at the inlet to the San Francisco harbor, again in the middle of the great depression, and can look at the Golden Gate bridge to this day as the engineering feet that it is.

The freedoms that we enjoy allow for truly free thought and thus our advantage in the world is secured. We were the first to harness the power of the Atom. A feat that in todays dollars would certainly exceed into the trillion range.

We are a fiercely competitive people Sir. As a nation we commit not to that which is easy but that which hard. That is what makes the American people great, our willingness to reach, and accomplish the impossible together. This ability to accomplish such great things may be a contributing factor to why we are reviled by our enemies. They know when we commit the resources and talents of the American people to a problem that we will solve.

The problems in the Middle East are in large part driven by a culture we simply do not understand. Our need for oil in that region has pulled this country into a black hole. Our interests in the region can not be described so simply but we must admit and begin the path to disengage and seperate our energy policy from the Middle East.

We are after all not the people that say “we can’t” we are the people that are the doers, thinkers, and makers. I beg you sir to commit the United States fully to solving the problems of eliminating our need for foreign oil and to clean our atmosphere. There is no other nation on this planet at this time with the capabilities that we posses to solve these problems. We have had the fun and it is time to roll up our sleves and get to the business or winning the war and laying the foundation for the better America we all want.

Energy and the manufacturing of an energy industry in this country at this time is at a place that is no differant from when the first "X" planes broke the sound barrier. The space program was built with hard work and thousands of americans acting towards a common goal. The same is true for energy. Energy is what drives us, supports us, and brings life to our nation. Nothing compares to our need for energy and the demands we place on the supply of energy to this country.
